Vintage Tuesday: Girly Thrift

girly thrift (3)When I’m thriting or at antique fairs I normally end up seeking out and buying mostly camera and photography related type items so today I thought I’d share some of my ‘girly thrift’. I know girly might be considered a stereotypical nonexclusive word but I was looking for a broad term that included all the little nick nacks I have around the house for no other reason than they are cute. Anyways, starting off are my retro kitty porcelain salt and pepper shakers and cat figure that I adore.

girly thrift (8)Hello Kitty phone that lights up bought for $1, I don’t know who uses a landline anymore but I use it as a book end.

girly thrift (6)Two vintage frames of mixed media art consisting of an oil painted background with the swans and doves  made with real feathers.

girly thrift (7)A retro Coke Cola wooden display, likely made in the 1970’s based of an older tin sign.

girly thrift (15)A retro My Little Pony missing it’s tail given as a trade.

retro my little pony (3)retro my little pony (2)Found at Puces St-Henri this last weekend, I rarely find My Litte Pony’s while at flea markets that are worth buying so I was excited. The price of $20 for all 3 was a bit much but I caved.

girly thrift (9)Vintage taxidermy keychain, I consider it my Pokemon.

girly thrift (12)Darling chocolate tin featuring a cat, unsure of year but probably after 1950s.

girly thriftA vintage Talc tin for Evening in Paris, likely 1920s era.

sailor moon (2)Not thrifted but had to include my desktop Sailor Scouts.

girly thrift (14)And lastly my grandmother’s perfume bottle, which has a delightful shape and color.

Happy Thrifting!

Autumn Leaves

My balcony this autumn has turned into the most wonderful showcase of changing leaf colour, or at least I think so. I was so captured by it that I spent nearly an hour outside just enjoying the breeze, finding color combinations and spending time with Butter. My own overgrown secret garden as I like to think of it.

Things That Make Me Smile

It has been forever since I last did a Things That Make Me Smile post, so it feels really good to do one this week and going through the last few weeks of my photos. I decided not to share anything from the beginning of July while I was on vacation in Vancouver because I will probably put that all together into one post in the future (fyi I get a lot of anxiety about trips so I usually don’t like to go through the photos until some time has past but I promise I will share more as the weeks go on).

things that make me smile (18)things that make me smile (9)The vines on my balcony grow so much during summer but this year it feels extra magical for some reason. Maybe because it reminds me of the Secret Garden, which was one of my favourite childhood books.

things that make me smile (5)A gift of a vanilla candle in a tea cup given to me by my lovely friend Pang.

things that make me smile (19)This watermelon instax film of Hamicat, actually all the Hamicat instax film is priceless.

things that make me smile (1)The artwork of the metro station near my house is always amazing but this year’s flora creature theme is strange and wonder and any time it catches my eye I grin.

things that make me smile (4)things that make me smile (3)A day at the beach playing Exploding Kittens!

things that make me smile (12)The Sailor Moon figurine I bought while in Vancouver from a comic book store. I am way too much of a cheapass to appreciate the mystery of a blind box figurine but luckily I got the one I wanted the most with just one box.

things that make me smile (2) things that make me smile (3)Since me and Victor arrived back in Vancouver we’ve been obsessed with the idea of Japanese candy since we ate so much while there. We finally got around to checking out to see if our local stores had the same candy and we found a bunch of new stuff and a few of the same.

things that make me smileAn original piece from Starchild Stela, and her newest zine.

things that make me smile (14)My beyond cute birthday present that I got from my friend Nicole while visiting Vancouver. You know those presents that you get that you love but it’s something you would never have thought of yourself – this book is totally that. She also got me a million and one rolls of tape in different patterns.

things that make me smile (16) things that make me smile (17)My collection of summer sandals. I honestly hadn’t bought a pair of shoes in a year and then went crazy in July and bought 5 pairs on sale. My favourite pair is the sandals with the black and white stripes mixed with the flower pattern, so cute. Also check out my first ever platforms, they are amazing but I think I over estimated my ability to walk in them.

things that make me smile (4)My tower of chocolate Lucky Charms, from the past weekend when Pride was happening and there were lots of freebies being handed out in the Village.

things that make me smile (1)Trying a new ice cream for the first time, the name alone made me buy it.

things that make me smile (5)Changed up how my front window looked (maybe after a few of the new plants started to die).

things that make me smile (7)Butter’s nose.

things that make me smile (2)Lastly, I smile every time I see the K+V outside of my apartment on the pavement especially when taking photos of me and Victor’s new shoes. I know it’s very juvenile to scrap your name into wet cement but after 6 months of continuous building outside of my window every day while the city ripped up the road I didn’t really care.

Things That Make Me Smile

things that make me smile (7)What better way to start a Things That Make Me Smile post than our new bikes. Seriously in love with my early birthday present.

things that make me smile (1)My air plant is flowering, so pretty.

things that make me smile (10) things that make me smile (11)Going plant shopping, and these goth fucking flowers.
(more flowers photos from Atwater Marche here)

things that make me smile (13) things that make me smile (14)The succulents that we picked out. I don’t have a good track record with succulents so I hope these don’t end up making me sad. lol.

things that make me smile (15)Butter randomly makes the best unimpressed face.

things that make me smilethings that make me smile (2)Me and Victor wanted to go on farther bike rides so randomly one day we headed to Lachine which is on the south side of Montreal island and biked around the edge. It took us about 3 hours as we stopped a lot and got lost. The weather was poor that day so I didn’t take many photos but I loved these two.

things that make me smile (10)First day at the lake! The water was really cold but that didn’t stop us from spending all our time there swimming.

Random things I bought in June.

things that make me smile (4)Including these Sailor Moon file folders.

things that make me smile (3) things that make me smile (2)After waiting 3 months my gemstone beads finally arrived and I couldn’t be more delighted. Made so many bracelets already and I haven’t even used half of them.

things that make me smile (9)Mural Festival happened earlier in the month and I was mostly disappointed by it this year. However I did find these amazing stickers from Sandra Chevrier.

things that make me smile (5) things that make me smile (6)Sunsets and Sunrises, made even better when Victor or Butter joins me in watching them.

things that make me smile (17)things that make me smile (19)Finishing a package of origami paper always makes me smile but this rainbow pack of 200 only took 1 week so I was extra delighted. Also my front window setup right now is on point.

things that make me smile (12) Found a baby bird hiding behind flowers while out on a walk.

things that make me smile (10)During the months of June to August every first Friday of the month they have a food cart night at the Olympic Stadium. Some our favourites for going in June was the Polish sausage on a stick (sooo good) and Polish fruit drink.

things that make me smile (11)Homemade epsom bath salts that smell like french vanilla, perfect for tired feet from too much walking.

things that make me smile (1) things that make me smile (8)things that make me smile (9) things that make me smile (4)A bunch of random photos from various walks around the Plateau and other areas of Montreal. That elephant statue by the way is $200 – and I really want it even though who would spend that kind of money on a disco ball elephant? Also the ice cream in the last photo is Korean and suppose to be a shark, it’s really really good so if you can find I highly recommend it.

things that make me smile (8)Lets end this very long Things That Make Me Smile with a self-portrait of myself after dying the tips of my hair purple (the camera tells lies, this is way more purple in person). Being bright and colorful always makes me smile.

Things That Make Me Smile

Another Things that Make Me Smile post this month because the last one was a special one just for Easter. It’s been a really random month so these photos are all over the place. I can’t believe we are almost finished, April went by way too quickly for me. I guess being bedridden didn’t help, anyways here are the some of things that had me grinning ear to ear…

things that make me smile butter (3)Butter has been hanging out more and more on her cat palace.

things that make me smile (1)Origami paper, this set is so vibrant and has that Spring feeling – I love it.

things that make me smile (4)My friend Billy (Starchild Stela) gave me one of her adorable shrink pieces.  If you like you can check out her store where she has plenty.

things that make me smile (3)My new milk carton purse for those days I’m just walking around. It fits seriously nothing.

double exposure vieux montreal (18) double exposure vieux montreal (19)These two double exposures. Probably my favourite I took this weekend. Also being outside made me smile – I can’t wait for more walks when the weather is nicer.

Lomography Wednesday: Day Off

Today I needed a day off, so I’m just going to share with you two Instax Mini photos from me and Victor’s first walk of spring. Yup, it’s finally warm enough to walk around Montreal and I couldn’t be happier about it. This Sunday we decided to enjoy the fresh air and go to my favourite bakery to buy almond croissants and sit in Parc Laurier. The parc btw had no leaves on any of the trees, brown grass and snow patches scattered about and was still packed with every hipster parent and their kids because I think everyone was just so happy. It was nice. Yesterday also marked the first day in over 2 weeks were I haven’t been suffering from symptoms of my concussion, so I’m having a pretty great week all things considered. I’m also a good week behind on the blog because of not being able to really do work for the past 2 weeks so that’s why today’s post is super short. Sorry! I do have a really fun post for tmr about what I’m currently reading. instax mini (4) instax mini (8)instax mini (1)(I love the Little Twin Star Instax Mini film, so adorable)

Things That Make Me Smile

This is a special ‘Things That Make Me Smile’ post for this wonderful Easter Sunday. Even though I’m an atheist it’s my favourite holiday to go all out on (beside Halloween but that’s a given). I mentioned it every year how I grew up with quiet an extravagant amount of Easter festivities and tradition. My grandmother on my father’s side of the family grew up in a farming community that mostly consisted of Polish/Ukrainian families so her Germany family adopted their traditions. Easter to them is big holiday. So even though I don’t celebrate the religious side of it like Lent I do enjoy decorating my house with bunnies, having an Easter tree made of pussywillows, dying eggs, and displaying my array of handmade designed Easter eggs, plus chocolate (who could forget the chocolate). It’s all rather strange, but then again I’m rather strange.

My favourite tattoo Easter eggs. The second one is a swimming horse, it’s hard to see but it has bubbles on it’s body and all around. (DIY here, and most of them here)

my little pony easter egg (1)The top of my shelf, which happens to be filled wtih My Little Pony’s and Pysanky eggs.

things that make me smile (2)Making bracelets! One for my friend’s little girl and one for me. Kit Kat is a nickname that one of my co-worker calls me and I think it’s adorable.

My Easter themed nail designs.

things that make me smile (7) things that make me smile (6)Butter cleaning herself on her cat palace. She doesn’t sit there very much right now but I have a feeling when it starts getting sunnier she will not be able to resist sunbathing there.

things that make me smile (1) things that make me smile (2)This year’s Easter display. I didn’t end up getting an Easter tree this year because of health issues related to my concussion which meant I was home bound for the last week. Instead I have my coffee table which has been decorated all month with our Easter goodies, and various decor. I love these giant Easter eggs I found at Dollarama.

things that make me smile (6)My rainbow collection of jump rings which are for April’s DIY project.

temporary tattoo batman unicorn easter eggs (2)A bowl of crazy, some glow in the dark plastic Easter eggs I decorated.

naturally dyed floral easter eggs (37)Trying out something new and being blown away by the results. These are stunning, I honestly had to stop myself from doing more (I already decorated 2 dozen). They are really fun and the natural dye is surprisingly fun to experiment with.
DIY of them here.

things that make me smile (3)things that make me smile (1)Holiday snail mail! Made these postcards myself with Easter transfers and plenty of stickers.

things that make me smile (5)Easter weekend suffered the same fate as the last month which doesn’t make me smile but I always find it pretty to find a fresh white blanket of snow in the morning.

things that make me smile (1)Oh also these cute St. Patrick Day postards. Wrong holiday but aren’t these stickers adorable?

things that make me smile (9)Happy Easter!

Pick of the Week: Pony People

Pick of the Week: Pony People

This week’s pick is the Etsy store Pony People who make brooches, stickers and original artwork. I just had to pick up some of their cat brooches at the start of summer especially because the cute grey cat reminds me so much of my own cat Butter. Who can resist a cute grey cat brooch, let alone a flower cat brooch? I just love the creativity and they match my summer dresses so well. They sent with the brooches a free postcard and some stickers that are really cool. Check out more photos below of the brooches and extras!

Cute Little Cat Nose

butter (7)

Butter has one of the cutest little noses I’ve ever seen on a cat. Her little spots just make me want to boob them (which I would never do so no hate mail). These photos of Butter are my way of cheering me up because I am not only exhausted but I have an ear infection after just getting over a cold. Real talk, I’ve had a really draining week.  I’ve been having really weird waves of depression hit which I think are being caused by my body feeling not so great and lack of sleep.  But it’s kind of hit me from left field and I’ve been spending way too much time listening to Drake thinking about really weird times in my life at 3am when I should be sleep. Lol. Working till midnight never ends well as I need to distress a lot after work or I can’t sleep.  Hoping on the weekend I can cheer myself up and start out next week with a fresh start. I don’t take any medication for my depression and instead just try and go with the flow. Even though I’ve battled with it for 15 years I never seem equipped to make it go away on its own. After it’s over or on during the day when my head is clearer I feel like I’ve lost so much time. I’m just excited my schedule next week is mostly day shifts and I have a long weekend next week. Really hope you’re feeling great and don’t have to work this weekend. Be prepared because I have two new posts I’ll be doing in April that I’m really excited for.

Butter`s on the table.

butter (23)butter (19)butter (18)
We are getting to the 2nd last Butter of the Week, man I will miss it when it’s gone. I don’t know about you but I love looking at Butter’s majestic fluff. She is just too adorable not to take insane amount of photos of (no just me? okay…). I am very excited to have Friday’s be dedicated to weekly photos instead though. It’ll be a great way to keep up with taking daily photos without having the pressure of a 365 Challenge. This week I’ve actually taken a brief break from taking any photos because I’ve been sick for the 5th time this winter and just feel exhausted and in need relaxation. You’ll notice I didn’t post on Wednesday and that’s because I just needed one day off as I’ve spent every day this week lying in bed feeling awful or at work feeling awful. Besides being sick not much has happened except I’ve read all my Fables comics and am dying to get the next two deluxe editions in the mail so I can continue reading the series. I am willing to admit I am obsessed with the comic to the point I don’t know what I’ll do when I run out of deluxe editions to buy (they go up to comic 70 however the series has a lot more comics that haven’t been bundled in this hardcover deluxe editions – even worse after I get the two I just ordered I only have 1 left). So if you know a great online site for reading comic let me know! I am hoping that I manage to get lots of work done to make up for the last week of slacking and maybe even paint a part of the house if I’m feeling up to it this weekend. Hope you have a great weekend and enjoying the first weekend of Spring!
