Vintage Tuesday: Girly Thrift

girly thrift (3)When I’m thriting or at antique fairs I normally end up seeking out and buying mostly camera and photography related type items so today I thought I’d share some of my ‘girly thrift’. I know girly might be considered a stereotypical nonexclusive word but I was looking for a broad term that included all the little nick nacks I have around the house for no other reason than they are cute. Anyways, starting off are my retro kitty porcelain salt and pepper shakers and cat figure that I adore.

girly thrift (8)Hello Kitty phone that lights up bought for $1, I don’t know who uses a landline anymore but I use it as a book end.

girly thrift (6)Two vintage frames of mixed media art consisting of an oil painted background with the swans and doves  made with real feathers.

girly thrift (7)A retro Coke Cola wooden display, likely made in the 1970’s based of an older tin sign.

girly thrift (15)A retro My Little Pony missing it’s tail given as a trade.

retro my little pony (3)retro my little pony (2)Found at Puces St-Henri this last weekend, I rarely find My Litte Pony’s while at flea markets that are worth buying so I was excited. The price of $20 for all 3 was a bit much but I caved.

girly thrift (9)Vintage taxidermy keychain, I consider it my Pokemon.

girly thrift (12)Darling chocolate tin featuring a cat, unsure of year but probably after 1950s.

girly thriftA vintage Talc tin for Evening in Paris, likely 1920s era.

sailor moon (2)Not thrifted but had to include my desktop Sailor Scouts.

girly thrift (14)And lastly my grandmother’s perfume bottle, which has a delightful shape and color.

Happy Thrifting!

Lomography Wednesday: Spring in Instant

spring instax mini film (14)Today I’m sharing with you all the instant photography that I took using my Instax Mini 90 this Spring. You might recognize the characters on the film itself if you’ve ever seen Little Twin Star before. I love being able to use themed Instax mini film when I get the chance, it’s just so cute and adorable although probably not very suitable for the photos I ended up taking with it (it was all I had at the time). All of these shots were taken back in May and April from several different trips.  Most of them feature the Vieux-Montreal & Plateau area where I frequently go for bike rides and picnics and show things like the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, Clock tower, Parc Lafontaine and silos. A few double exposures as well which I’m not yet sold on with this camera. I notice the double exposures tend to usually be over exposed no matter what time of day/lighting conditions I am taking the shots in. I still haven’t done my review of the Instax Mini 90 either, hope to finish it by the end of the summer. Anyways, to the photos…

We went for a picnic at the Sir Wilfred Laurier parc with almond croissants from my favourite bakery – yum.

Lomography Wednesday: Day Off

Today I needed a day off, so I’m just going to share with you two Instax Mini photos from me and Victor’s first walk of spring. Yup, it’s finally warm enough to walk around Montreal and I couldn’t be happier about it. This Sunday we decided to enjoy the fresh air and go to my favourite bakery to buy almond croissants and sit in Parc Laurier. The parc btw had no leaves on any of the trees, brown grass and snow patches scattered about and was still packed with every hipster parent and their kids because I think everyone was just so happy. It was nice. Yesterday also marked the first day in over 2 weeks were I haven’t been suffering from symptoms of my concussion, so I’m having a pretty great week all things considered. I’m also a good week behind on the blog because of not being able to really do work for the past 2 weeks so that’s why today’s post is super short. Sorry! I do have a really fun post for tmr about what I’m currently reading. instax mini (4) instax mini (8)instax mini (1)(I love the Little Twin Star Instax Mini film, so adorable)

Extra Easter DIY: Tattoo Easter Egg Ornaments

tattoo easter eggs

Another extra DIY for Easter to make up for missing last month’s DIY project. This one is super cute and easy to do. All you need is temporary tattoos you like, some patience and very little else. I’ll also be showing you how to make ornaments out of the finished eggs as well for those of you want to hang them up or like me celebrate Easter with a tree (it’s an old German tradition to have an Easter tree). This project is great for those of you who have kids too as you can create themed eggs so easily. Superheroes, dragons, flowers, skulls, moustaches, cartoons – pretty much anything as long as you can find them as temporary tattoos. I’m going to be making Hello Kitty Easter eggs because I have a few friends who love her and I thought it’d be a cute gift idea. I also picked up temporary tattoos from Dollarama of flowers and butterflies since I thought they’d be cute and be great ornaments.

What You’ll Need: easter diy (1)

  • Eggs
  • Temporary tattoos
    Optional:
  • Easter egg dye
  • Scissors and thread or lace
*only if you want to make ornaments
    Cost:
    $10

This Week in Photos

Very excited for the first ever “This Week in Photos”. I want to keep taking daily photos without all the pressure of a 365 Challenge as seriously that exhausted me. Since I stopped in the beginning of March I’ve felt like I’m on vacation from photography. Which has been great but I really want to get back into it. I also need to encouraging myself to actually post all the random shots I end up taking throughout my week.  I love a good random shot of my daily life but it usually just sits on my computer and never sees the light of day for oh a good year or two so this is perfect. Oh speaking of random photos I’m working slowly at my Society6 store to add a bunch of various photographs so if you want to check out the prints I have available – click here! Just a warning as well – there will be a lot of Easter photos in the weeks to come. Starting at the beginning of April I go full out old school German and obsess about Easter. It’s a weird family tradition, it means decorations, rabbit ears, Easter tree (yup there’s a tree) and lots of eggs.

montreal graffitistarchild stelaA sneak peack at my weekend photoshoot. Already posted my instant photos from that day on Tuesday! More to come next week.

hanging wall (3) hanging wall (2)I rearranged and added some new zines and mini prints to my hanging wall. The instant of me and Victor from Montreal En Lumiere festival makes me smile.

postcardsStarting to send out my Spring postcards.

value village (2)Went to Value Village to look for silk ties for my Easter DIY.

silk tiesSilk ties are so expensive, I layed down all the ones I liked to choose a few. I spent $30 on 5 which I wasn’t expecting…apperently used silk ties are sups expensive for some reason.

my little pony (2)I bought this My Little Pony at Value Village for $2 and while waiting for the bus to go home took a few pictures. I love when people just stare at me while I take photos like I’m hella crazy.

Hope you have an amazing weekend.  I am going to be knee deep in my Easter DIY projects I think or at least blowing out eggs in preparation. Maybe even get around to painting the enterance to our apartment…I say that every week don’t I? I feel like if I keep saying it maybe it’ll come true….
