Things That Make Me Smile

Although it isn’t May any longer I had so many photos that I didn’t have a chance to share so today is going to be May’s Things That Make Me Smile. So sorry about all the uncertainty with posts the last month, there was a security issue that happened mid-month and to ensure there was no issues I had to take the site down. Still working to get it fully back up so you may notice things changing for the next week but I’m trying to finish it as soon as possible. There will be another smile post next week too, so if you like my silly personal photos you are in luck. Hope you enjoy!

He also picked one up for himself so we could ride in style together. So much better than the ancient 2nd hand bikes we’ve had for the past 2 years.

things that make me smile (2)Also these light up alien heads that I bought Victor to go with his bike.

things that make me smile (2)My homemade vanilla extract (I did a post about making it here). Still letting it ruminate for a bit longer before using but it’s getting so dark now.

things that make me smile (4)Speaking of alcohol, I love sparkling cider and randomly picked this brand up one day from a local depanneur and fell in love. It’s so good, and tastes exactly like the other Quebec sparkling cider I love by Lafrance. This one comes in mini bottles instead of a big bottle though so it’s perfect picnics. I like to call it poor person champagne.

things that make me smile (1)Puffy stickers :)  I promised myself that I wouldn’t buy any more stickers until I whittled away some of my vast collection….but I couldn’t resist.

things that make me smile (2)My best thrift store haul of the year. The Hello Kitty phone was only $4! I really need to spend more time thrifting this summer.

things that make me smile (3)How could I resist these Sailor Moon stickers? (bought from Etsy)

things that make me smile (5)Dino stamps? Such a nerd. Honestly though these are the best.

things that make me smile (1)I am a sucker for pastel origami paper. I’ve been hard at work on my 3,000 crane project. Just reaching over 2,000 this past month after starting in February. I wanted to have it finished by end of June but now I am aiming more for end of July, early August. Let you know more about it closer to the date.

things that make me smile (5)I’ll end today’s post with a sunset, appropriate I thought to say the least. What better to make me smile than a bike ride and picnic ending with a beautiful view and the sound of running water? All I need for heaven on early.

This Week in Photos

I’m still recovering from Mutek on the weekend if you can believe it. It’s been a very mellow week but I’m excited to finally have a few days off to catch up on my sleep and maybe do a bit of exploring around Montreal. I had my bike repaired at the start of the week so I’m excited to get outside go for a long ride. It’s good that this week’s post is a mix from the last two weeks because it’s been raining here a lot and I’ve been staying indoors. I’ve actually finished painting the main room of my house a nice pale pinky peach color. Still don’t know if I’m in love with it as much as my living room and bedroom colors. The big issue is that it looks very different when the lights are on, changing from pale peach to a vibrant pink tone. It’s also the one room in my house where we always have the lights on so I’m waiting to decorate the walls with various prints and photography and see if it feels a bit chiller. Mutek was amazing btw and I’m already excited for next year already. If you want to hear more about my thoughts on the event I shared a lot on Sunday’s post – here. I didn’t take my Nikon camera with me to dance so there are not a lot of photos but I just had to share two from my phone. Anyways I’m probably rambling. Here is what I’ve been up to!

this week in photos (2)I feel like all summer ‘This Week in Photos’ should start with a sunrise. I coined this the Summer of Sunrises because of how many times I’ve spent my morning watching the sun rise in the last few weeks.

this week in photos (4) Does it make me a hipster if I like turbans and flower crowns? Excited to wear these all summer long. Will have a review of them in 2 weeks,  they are by Beauxoxo.

this week in photosButter has been stuck inside for most of the week since there is construction outside our house and there have been a few storms (she gets really scared and hides under the bed). It’s a good thing she can at least chill on the kitchen window.

this week in photos (1)With the rain comes the pretty clouds.

this week in photos (2)this week in photos (3)This is vintage fair Old Wig that I was talking about 2 weeks ago. It happens a few times a year over a weekend.  Me, Victor and my friend Jenny decided to check it out together.

this week in photosThis it all I bought, which I was surprised by but there was no vintage cameras or other items that I just had to have. I may have asked Victor to buy me a vintage globe, or two, or three….not luck, lol. They have different stores each time so I guess that’s why it was as good as when we went in November. I was really happy to find a set of salt and pepper shakers though since I’ve been wanting a pair of cute ones for awhile. Everything was only $10. Jenny also got the cutest milkshake maker. All three of us let pretty quickly after arriving but we went out for diner and drinks so it wasn’t a complete wash.

this week in photos (2)More sunrises, I love the clouds with the sunrise.

This is from Saturday night when I took a photo on my phone of the theatre just before Villalobos started and another one on Sunday morning when we left the theatre. It’s always mind blowing after a night of dancing to be greeted by the sun.

this week in photos (10)this week in photos (11)this week in photos (9)On Sunday we went to our first Piknic Electronik of the year. It wasn’t as good as last year’s Piknic for Mutek or the year’s before but it was still fun. The vibe has really changed, I think at least…but maybe that’s just because my friends who use to come with us aren’t in Montreal anymore.

Villalobos was awesome, more chill than the night before. He played old school Beck and ATB which was really hilarious to me. I felt so dead after his set though we didn’t stay for long.

this week in photos (5)End of Mutek, time to hang up our weekend passes and the put the schedule away. Me and Victor enjoy hanging up our event passes as reminders, I’m sure these will end up in his office.

Thought Butter would be the perfect end to today’s post. She really loves hidding behind the plants and watching our back garden. Hope you have an amazing weekend!

52 Weeks of Self-Portraits

09/52 Mutek

self-portraitToday’s photo brought to by 3 days of dancing and very little sleep since Mutek was this week. Me and Victor had the weekend light passes so we got to go to all the evening shows and today’s Piknic Electronik. It was amazing seeing djs from all over the world and being able to enjoy and experience their music live. The best set by far was the sexy Ricardo Villalobos who played last night for almost 4 hours up until 6am and again today for 2 hours at Piknic. Best visuals go to Audion though, and best collab song was local djs Mossa and Ben Nevile. Also loved Max Cooper and Magic Mountain High, need to listen to them more…it was a good Mutek. My week of rain ended with the hottest day yet this Spring – just in time for Summer I guess. I probably shouldn’t have trusted myself to take a photo this weekend – I barely managed to take this one (:p). But here we are, I tried to get one of me and Villalobos but it just wasn’t meant to be. Hope you had an amazing weekend! Excited to sleep in the next few days!

Here is another one of my watching Villalobos play his 2nd set at Piknic Electronik this afternoon, you can see the stage in my sunglass’s reflection. Also my new hair color! It is an ompre effect. Cotton candy pink into a darker neon pink on one side and then lime green/yellow to turquoise on the other. Loving it but forgot to change my piercings to match. Have a better photo of my hair on Friday if you are curious to what it looks like.

Another Year of Piknic Electronik

Another year of Piknic Electronik, another summer of dancing and having a good time out in the sun enjoying Montreal in a way you only can at Piknic. This year marks my 5th year of attending Piknic Electronik which officially kicked off on May 18th. The first weekend I’ll be going to is this weekend for my favourite event Mutek at Piknic. Beyond excited to get out there and dance with friends. I didn’t pick up a season pass this year since the line-up isn’t as stellar as it has been in the past and work likes to make me work on Sundays (boo) but I am sure I’ll be spending a good deal of time dancing my ass off there all summer. I just may not be going as often as I’d like. I thought today I’d go down memory lane and share photos from the Mutek event 2 years ago at Piknic when my friend Brent was visiting in town and a lot of my friends were still living here (miss those guys so fucking much, the old Piknic crew just doesn’t exist anymore). If you are not from Montreal but live close enough to road trip here I highly suggest checking out Piknic Electronik – it`s usually every Sunday and it`s a great atmosphere.

I love the second stage because it’s pretty chill in comparasion to the main stage. mutek piknic electronik (25) mutek piknic electronik (27) mutek piknic electronik (21)mutek piknic electronik (28) The insane people I know are never dull. One of best places to be on the weekend in Montreal is the Piknic Electronik with a beer in hand and listening to amazing djs. This year the dj line-up hasn’t been as steller as in the past but the best weekend to be there is always the Mutek one. I toke my disderi robot camera with me and got some really fun shots of everyone dancing and enjoying the sun and music. San Proper’s live set was really good, and the rest of Mutek Piknic as well. I am in love with my disderi toy camera and will have a lot of photos to share in the next few months from the summer as it’s my go-to camera right now. Hope you enjoyed and if you are in Montreal or ever visit make sure to check out Piknic!

I’ve never used my LomoKino camera before now even though I’ve had it for 6 months so this summer is the summer of mini-movies! It takes 35 film and makes roughly 90 second length of film. My first attempt was taken at the Mutek weekend of Piknic Electronic Festival of random scenes that I liked. For those of you not in Montreal, Piknic Electronic is an electronic music festival that takes place every Sunday all summer. San Proper was playing and I love his live set, it was a great day and I was really excited to try out LomoKino.

lomokino*this is how it looks when I scan the film, it’s a long process but I’m happy with my first round of LomoKino
