Pick of the Week: Ree Artwork

Pick of the Week: Ree Artwork

This week’s artist is illustrator Ree from Venezuela and Florida who sells prints and originals. She posts videos as well on Youtube of her work and process which I enjoy since she uses Copic markers which I am trying to learn techniques for. Her gorgeous style really attracted me to her work and I just had to pick something up s0 I bought an original of a mermaid and a few prints that I adore. I’m really happy with her work and always looking forward to see what she does next.  You can check out her blog, and her store for more of her work.

Pick of the Week: Soft Market

Pick of the Week: Soft Market

This weekend in Montreal is the second ever, Soft Market featuring a bunch of great local artists and artisans. This one is the Spring edition and I will be there as a seller with some of my colorful and cute bath products I’ve been making in the last few months. So if you see me there, come say hi! I am pretty excited to see how the reception is and I loved going to the last one so I am sure it will be a fun day.  Below I thought I’d share what I picked up at the last Soft Market so you can get an idea of what type of things will be there.

soft market (1)One of the  organizers is artist Starchild Stela, who I haven’t shared on the blog in awhile. I picked up the Bitter Feels zine, her Support Cuties sticker pack, a Cat Calls patch, and a Not Your Babe pin. I love the support stickers the most!  soft market (3) soft market (2) soft market (4) soft market (11)Sarah Bourget is someone I always see at craft fairs and have to resist buying everything she has. Her custom stickers and mini prints are a dream.  soft market (7)soft market (8) soft market (9) soft market (6)
The other organizer of the event is Lovestruck Prints who’s pastel stickers are adorable.soft market (5)
Swarm stickers, a zine by Kyoko and the business card of this great poetry maker Hea Ryung. I was so broke when I went I couldn’t buy a cup but I deeply regret it. soft market (12)Lastly SugarBones’ JustGirlyThings zine and matching pin, the artist wasn’t there but it’s in the same vibe so thought I’d share.

If you are coming on Saturday, I look forward to meeting you and I’m excited to check out all the artists and do some trades to add to my growing zine and huge sticker collection.

Pick of the Week: Valérie Bastille

Valérie BastillePick of the Week: Valérie Bastille

This week I’m sharing artist Valérie Bastille also known as Naylemonstre from Montreal. I adore her style and think she does really unique compositions within her work. Her work reminds me a bit of the Sky Doll and other comic bases artists which I love. I’ve shared her work before but had a few more pieces that I thought I’d share like her coloring book Quolia, and my personal favourites the stickers which she customizes. You can check out her website here and her store.

Today’s pick is from the adorable and babelicious world of Cailiflower. Through her Storenvy she sells stickers and mini prints of her illustrations so you guessed it, this is another sticker haul like last week! Her series of spooky and alien babes are super cute and I fell in love with her pastel color palette. You can check out her store here for stickers and for more of her work, Instagram.

Pick of the Week: Lindsay Campbell

This week’s pick is Lindsay Campbell/Pound Puppy and her wonderful stickers that are just pure joy. Rather than blather on about them I thought I’d just show them one by one as they are all very unique and beautiful. I wish she’d make more prints of her works especially if on good quality Giclée paper, it’d be heavenly but I’ll take what I can. She does sell originals and other things quiet often through her Facebook page if you’re interested, and her store as well. Now onto some of my favourite stickers in my collection.

Things That Make Me Smile

The last Things That Make Me Smile post until 2016! As I always say this is one of my favourite posts to put together and this one was no different.  November has been very quiet for me so there is not a lot of photos this month but December will be the usual bit of chaos making sure I get everything mailed to Vancouver on time for my friends to enjoy their presents, and celebrating not only my best friend’s birthday but also Victor’s. Right now I am currently working hard to get my holiday cards ready to mail out and just recently setup my Christmas tree.  Not to mention it’ll soon be me and Victor’s 6th anniversary and we are currently planning on getting tattooed together. We are just finalizing everything for it now and I am pretty excited about doing it although a bit nervous as I haven’t gotten tattooed in years. Lots of planning it seems, anyways this month’s selection of things that make me smile…

things that make me smile (6) things that make me smile (7) things that make me smile (4)This year’s Christmas cards are really cute. I usually don’t go for juvenile style cards but I get to color them and they pop up? What is not to love about them?

This is actually the first time I am using my Copic markers, which is proably a waste of really expensive markers but since my friend Zara gave them I haven’t had a reason to use them (as I can’t draw).

things that make me smile (2)I convinced Victor to buy crazy socks, after 6 years of being together I’ve finally rubbed off on him. I don’t know if it was the posh Top Shop that convinced him but he bought pepper and pineapple socks while I bought ice cream ones.

And that is the last Things that Make Me Smile of the year, hope you enjoyed!

Expozine

expozine (1)This past weekend I had a chance to check out this year’s Expozine here in Montreal, it’s an event dedicated to independent zines, comic books, and small press that gets Canadian wide artists attending. The event is normally packed so I never take photos at the event itself but I thought like last year I’d share what I picked up and enjoyed from Expozine.

Pick of the Week: Gemma Flack

gemma flack (1)Pick of the Week: Gemma Flack

This week’s pick is Gemma Flack’s whose store is filled with artwork, zines, stickers and more. I was really excited to pick up a few things from her after finding out about her through the Bablien zine and finally did last month. The items I was most excited about was her zines ‘It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to exist’ and ‘Imaginary Girl Bands’. I am in love with Imaginary Girl Bands as I love the names and the story behind each band along with the accompanying artwork. The zine ‘It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to exist’ although nice felt a bit sparse to me and didn’t seem to be as thematic. The highlight of the zine was any page that had her portrait drawings on them and the a pressed flower one. I also picked up a pack of temporary tattoos that are just really unique and fun. Overall I love everything and the package arrived quickly not to mention each item was reasonable priced. I am interested in seeing what she does for future zines and will buying from her again (I either didn’t notice or they are new, but her sticker packs are super cute). Below I have detailed photos of each item and the packaging. If you want to find out more about Gemma you can check out her website or store !

I tested them out and they are easy to apply and the colors are really vibrant, which I love. It’s a transfer though and not a true tattoo so it’s one big sheet of film which for me got wrinkly very quickly from movement. gemma flack (10)gemma flack (12)A sneak peak at the zines and below is her mini print business card and free stickers that came with the zine. gemma flack (4)

Pick of the Week: Mikomi Art and Accessories

Mikomi Art sailor moon stickers (4)Pick of the Week: Mikomi Art and Accessories

This week’s pick is Mikomi Art and Accessories which specializes in anime stickers, prints and pins. I found out about her shop at the end of Spring when I was watching a lot of the new revised Sailor Moon animation and decided to check out Etsy to see what they had in terms of fan art. When I was looking I fell in love with these Sailor Moon stickers and thought they were some of best interpretations on there of Naoko Takeuchi‘s original work. So I couldn’t resist picking up each set she had and let’s just say I am beyond delighted with them. Not only did they arrived quickly and in great packaging but they are very good quality and the colors just pop. The price for them was also reasonable and she carries them a variety of different sizes as which I liked. You check out her store here and below is a closer look at all the sticker designs.
